A Proud Mom Moment: How My 10-Year-Old Used Breathwork to Heal and Serve Others
I don’t know if I’ve ever felt prouder as a mom.
Last Friday night, my son Bennett fractured his wrist. By Saturday morning, he woke me up crying in pain from a stomach ache. I tried all my natural remedies — my usual “voodoo” — but nothing helped.
So, I guided him through some breathwork, turned on a healing meditation, and held space for him. Eventually, his brother joined us and distracted him long enough for the pain to settle.
Choosing Service Over Comfort
Later that morning, I reminded Bennett we had volunteered to help at a senior living center’s “Senior Prom.” I told him he didn’t have to go — that I could donate what we offered and go without him.
But he looked at me and said: “No, Mommy. I know it’ll make the old people feel good if I put on my suit. I’ll be okay.”
Healing, Breathwork, and Human Connection
Bennett got dressed, showed up fully, and — of course — was a total hit. We had a beautiful moment with a woman in her late 80s on hospice care, who looked and sounded decades younger. It was a reminder of how powerful human connection can be — at any age.
On the drive home, I said, “I’m glad the activated charcoal finally kicked in.”
He replied, “No Mommy, it was the breathwork that did it.” A 10-year-old using breathwork to manage his pain — and then showing up to bring joy to others? That’s the kind of child I get to raise.
Breathwork, Mindfulness, and Raising Conscious Kids
This moment reminded me that children are more capable and wise than we often give them credit for. Teaching them tools like mindful breathing, emotional awareness, and the importance of giving back early on is everything.
I feel so blessed. So proud.
He’s a stellar human — and I get to be his mom. 🙏
