Me Too

me too blog meme

Me Too. Have you seen this yet in your facebook timeline? A bunch of women saying Me Too? Some with an explanation, some without?

I am not gonna lie. When I first saw it, I was like wow, courageous, then I felt sad, hurt, shame.

Me Too! I was also sexually assaulted on more than one occasion, but did I want to put this in my Facebook status for the world to see? Would this really make a point or ride a huge movement? I don’t know how I feel about this. I don’t know if I agree that this is showing the magnitude of a problem, or if it will ever actually change the problem, but I do have to give props to those who are owning it because I feel that this makes a huge impact in healing.

What I do know is that many women live as victims. Women who are sexually abused, assaulted, raped, and then cannot move past this label. How do you move past this? Do you live as a victim or do you take your experience and inspire others with it? Or do you stay quiet and never talk about it at all?

It’s not much of a topic for me. Not something I have ever spoken about outloud. I don’t hold on to those feelings, nor have I ever really thought about them. Somewhere in my spiritual work I went in and forgave the ones that were prominent in my memory, but I never let those experiences define me as a person.

So what do we do now?

Forgiveness is really the most powerful tool that we have. I don’t think the person that started this movement was looking for a forgiveness really, but wow what a shift in the world energy would  there be if everyone took a moment to forgive their abuser.

Forgiveness is the greatest gift that we have to hone in on our inner peace. You can never live in a state of pure bliss happiness if you are holding onto anger and resentment. Forgiveness does not mean absolving someone of their wrong doings, it just means having inner peace within yourself.

Tragic things happen to us all of the time. It is how we react to them that matters. Are we going to live in pain and suffering forever or can we move forward and use it as an inspiration to others, or let it go for our own inner peace.

I hope any woman or man that has suffered from sexual assault can forgive and heal.

I am grateful that I have! I am grateful for forgiveness, I am grateful for inner peace, I am grateful for calm, I am grateful I am safe, I am grateful the people around me are healing, I am grateful the world can stop suffering, I am grateful for love, I am grateful for strength, I am grateful my tragedies have led me to triumph!
